Unit 1 - Principles of Protective Care & Child Protection

Designed to enable students to develop an awareness and understanding of Child Protection issues and appropriate response and support measures, by covering the following five topics:

  • Historical and social perspectives on child protection
  • Identify abuse and risk of harm
  • Respond to the child and provide a safe environment
  • Ethical and responsible behaviour and work practices
  • Reporting procedures and protocols

  • Dealing with conflict
  • Cultural awareness

Unit 3 - Working with Young People

Designed to enable students to develop an awareness and understanding of the issues involved in working with young people and assisting them to achieve positive outcomes in their lives, by covering the following four topics:

  • Understanding youth culture
  • Behaviour issues
  • Young people at risk
  • Young people moving forward

Competencies include:

  • Evaluating and monitoring services to young people
