An ‘enrolment’ consists of a completed Enrolment Form accompanied
by the course deposit fee or the registration of an individual or individuals
by a client organisation that is invoiced for the cost of training for its employees. All
students will complete an Enrolment Form before the first session of training.
St Mark’s reserves the right to withhold final certificates, including
AQF Certificates of Qualification, Statements of Attainment, until fees are paid
in full by an individual student or sponsoring organisation.
Minimum enrolments are predetermined and when reached, ensure that a course
will proceed.
St Mark’s reserves the right to cancel a course for insufficient enrolments
or for any other reason. In such cases, full fees, where and individual or organisation
has paid those fees, will be refunded.
St Mark’s reserves the right to change a course schedule if there is an
unforeseen change in tutor or venue circumstances. However, if such changes
mean that a student is no longer able to attend the course, a transfer to another
course or a full refund will be made to the individual student or to the organisation
sponsoring that student, in cases where fees have been paid in advance.
St Mark’s will make every endeavour to accommodate the needs of students
with a disability. Organisations and/or individuals will need to discuss
such needs at the time of enrolment.
When St Mark’s cancels a course, any fees that have been
paid at the time of cancellation will be refunded by cheque to the individual
or organisation that paid the fees.
When a student withdraws from a course before the course commences, a refund will be issued. Such refunds will incur a 15% course
fee administration charge.
After training starts deposits will not be refunded; and any fees paid will be refunded on a pro-rata basis, calculated on the number of classes attended. However, once 50% of the Unit has elapsed, no refund will be given.
When a student withdraws from a course because of illness or misadventure, before the course commences, where the group booking
course fees are to be invoiced to the client organisation, the charge to that
client organisation may only be changed by negotiation as a lower fee may affect
the financial viability of the course.
Refunds are not given for non-attendance at any, or all, training sessions.
In the case of a student complaint about a course a decision to offer the student
or client organisation a refund would be made entirely at the discretion of the
Director, following investigation of the complaint.
St Mark’s National Theological Centre:
- Is committed to ethical and responsible management and welcomes the information
and feedback from students.
- Recognises the value in complaints and will accept any complaint openly and
treat the complaint as an opportunity to review and evaluate services.
- Will ensure that confidentiality is maintained in the Complaints process.
- Will ensure a prompt response to all complaints.
- The complaint will not be discussed with or beyond the parties to the complaint
and those involved in dealing with the complaint. In some cases resolution
of the complaint may involve appropriate bodies or professionals external to
St Mark’s. In such cases the contact details will be recorded along with
the reasons for the involvement of the external person or agency, on the Complaint
Form.
- Resolution of the complaint shall take into account the preferred process
of resolution of the person(s) who made the complaint.
- There may be instances where a complaint is of such a serious nature that
formal action is required that is beyond the wishes of the complainant, such
as when a person raises issues of unlawful behaviour or corruption or when
St Mark’s Duty of Care to staff or students may be compromised if no
further action is taken. In such circumstances St Mark’s must and
will take and/or initiate the necessary formal action.
- The only information held by St Mark’s about a student or a client
is information necessary to assess the need or eligibility to receive a service
and for St Mark’s to provide the service and will only be used
for the purpose for which it was collected.
- St Mark’s will not disclose information about students or clients to
people outside the organisation unless required by legal or academic requirements
of which the student has been informed prior to or at the time of enrolment.
- St Mark’s will not disclose details about the student to parents, spouses
or other relatives of the student, unless the student or client gives written
permission for St Mark’s to do so.
- St Mark’s will release information about students to sponsoring organisations
or companies only as and when the nature and extent of that information has
been decided upon and agreed to by the student prior to entering training.
- Under certain circumstances St Mark’s may be obliged to release statistical
information that has been collected as part of the student’s personal
information, as required by law or by commonwealth and state funding or accreditation
bodies. In such cases, the personal identifying information (such as
name and address) is encrypted to ensure that the student is not identifiable.
Student access to their own Student Records and Files:
- Students have the right to read any personal information kept about them
by St Mark’s and requests should be made to the Director who will ensure
that the student may access information on his/her file within two weeks.

St Mark’s and Mutual Recognition, Recognition of Prior
Learning and Credit Transfer (click here
to download a copy)
St Mark’s National Theological Centre:
- Recognises other Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) and recognises
the qualification issued by other RTOs within the AQF.
- Recognises and accepts its responsibility to provide accurate and equitable
Credit Transfer and Recognition of Prior Learning provisions and does not expect
its students to undertake again, work they have previously completed for which
they have been assessed as competent, or might be assessed as competent.
- Will provide full Credit Transfer of equivalent competencies achieved through
training and assessment with another RTO or in previous training at St Mark’s.
- Will provide students with access to assessment for Recognition of Prior
Learning that may demonstrate that the student has the skills and experience
to be assessed as competent in competencies relevant to the St Mark’s
training. An application for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) will be made
to St Mark’s in writing and must be able to be substantiated through
documentation, surveys and interviews.
- Is a fee based training organisation and will consider the cost to the student and to St Mark’s in determining a fee for any assessment associated with Recognition of Prior Learning and/or Credit Transfer.
Limitations to RPL:
- RPL will not normally be granted for a course or unit of study that is less
than 30 hours duration. For such an RPL requirement the student would
normally be advised to seek out an ‘Assessment Only’ pathway.
- RPL will not normally be granted for more than 50% of any other course or
unit of study at St Mark’s.
- A fee may be charged to the student for St Mark’s to undertake an RPL Assessment, especially when there are no ANTA recognised RTO issued Certificates of Qualification or Statements of Attainment.
- Cost of processing RPL and Credit Transfer applications: $110 for the first hour and $90 for every hour thereafter. There is a minimum cost of $110.
Assessment within the National Training Framework is defined as the process of collecting evidence and making judgements about whether competency has been achieved.
The purpose of assessment is to confirm whether an individual can perform to the standards expected in the workplace, as expressed in the Competency Standards in the relevant Training Package or accredited course.
Records of Attendance at Training
- Attendance at each session of training is recorded on the Class Roll as a record of training.
- Students need to ensure maximum attendance at face-to-face sessions as attendance problems may jeopardise their being able to complete the course or to receive the appropriate certificate of accreditation. Students are expected to attend at least 90% of all face-to-face teaching sessions. Please note that the Certificate IV mid year intensive is also a compulsory part of the course.
Records of Assessment
- Assessment records are gathered and copies of cover sheets and/or assessment task results are retained by the trainer for the duration of the course and until a Certificate of Qualification is issued for the qualification in which the student is enrolled.
- Trainers will not retain copies of actual written assessment tasks.
- It is the responsibility of students to retain their own assessment tasks and details of assessment records.
Assessment Appeal
If a student is unhappy with an assessment they may appeal through the 'Assessment Appeal' process by:
- Speaking to the Trainer/Assessor about any concerns.
- If the Assessor/Trainer does not satisfy the student's concerns, the student may lodge an 'Assessment Appeal' in writing or complete the Assessment Appeal Form within ten working days of notification of assessment outcome.
- The Director will review the appeal and may undertake or seek an independent assessment of the assessment task in order to uphold or overturn the original assessment. The student will be notified in writing.
- An interview may be requested by the student or the Director to be conducted between the student and the Director of St Mark's.
- St Mark's will make every effort to resolve an Assessment Appeal as soon as possible to the satisfaction of all parties concerned.
- The decision of the Director of St Mark's in relation to an Assessment Appeal is final.
- A student has redress to the Complaints process within St Mark's at any stage during or after the Assessment Appeal process.
- Students are asked to think about their own actions while participating in
St Mark’s training so as not to endanger their own safety and/or the
safety of others.
- Students who do not pay attention to instructions concerning safety will
be asked to leave a course and, in such cases, refunds will not be given.
- Students should immediately contact the trainer and the Director of St Mark’s
if they have any concerns about course safety.
- St Mark’s has a policy of no smoking in any workplace, training facility
or motor vehicle owned or being used by St Mark’s in its operations.
- St Mark’s has a policy that prohibits the use of drugs or alcohol during
work or training in any workplace, training facility or motor vehicle owned
or being used by St Mark’s during its operations.
- All incidents or accidents will be recorded in writing and reported to the
Director of St Mark’s.
- St Mark’s seeks and welcomes feedback from clients and students.
- A ‘Student Evaluation From’ is provided to each student attending
training. The completed form may be handed to the Trainer during class
or returned by mail or fax to St Mark’s.
- From time to time St Mark’s may seek additional feedback through telephone
interviews with a randomly selected number of students who are participating,
or have participated, in training and/or from an appropriate manager in the
client organisation.
